A true land of extremes.  Home to scorching sand dunes, below sea level salt plains, and towering peaks, Death Valley National Park is an extremely sought after landscape photo destination. The cooler months of winter bring temperatures which are perfectly suited for exploring and adventuring.  Winter also brings storm clouds from the West and increasing chances for better sunsets and sunrises.  This expansive park offers countless gallery photo opportunities and our goal to ensure students take home the best images possible.

Golden hour shining bright in Joshua Tree National Park, CA.

Workshop Details

What's Happening:

We will kick off the workshop Wednesday afternoon with an informal meet and greet session.  Students will have a chance to meet, mingle, and discuss what images they want to achieve.  Sunrises and sunset will be our bread and butter so be prepared to SHOOT BOTH EVERY DAY.  Our days will begin before dawn and shoot sunrise from places like the Mesquite Sand Dunes and Badwater Basin.  Our itinerary will be loose as we will be using the weather and light to plan our final shooting locations.  During the afternoons we will seek out hidden desert nooks while exploring the process of shooting black and white images.  When not scouting, we will take plenty of breaks to critique and post process images.  As the light fades towards the horizon we will scout various locations before shooting sunset.  Night skies in Death Valley offer amazing clarity for astrophotography so we will photograph the stars each night possible.  Before heading home Sunday afternoon we will wrap up the workshop with a final image review and post processing session. Death Valley offers plenty of variety so look forward to bagging sunrises, sunsets, black and whites, and even some abstract images.
